Before committing to buy any used car, a comprehensive inspection is needed. A thorough inspection should be made by an experienced mechanic even you have firmly inspected the vehicle yourself. If you do not trust mechanics, you can use the help of automobile inspection services. These agencies send their mechanic to perform a clear-cut inspection of the vehicle. They charge a nominal fee for this service. Don’t think twice about this upfront cost, as the value of knowing whether your car is mechanically sound is invaluable.

Whatever you choose, the seller should not have problem an inspection, and if it happens then there may be some big problem with the car. If this becomes the situation, leave the place for another deal.

During the inspection process, all the car’s fluids should be checked thoroughly. The oil should be in a golden or slightly brown color. The antifreeze should be fluorescent green, orange or red, but should not be rusty. It is often seen that a geyser of hot antifreeze drench the engine. Check this by removing the radiator cap. Take care while checking fluids. Look under the oil cap, if it has a milky color, the problem is in head gasket of the engine but if the automatic transmission fluid is red or pink, then there is no problem. Make sure that this fluid is not giving off a burning smell. These vital fluids are very important to notice. If there is anything suspicious in them, leave.

Most often, the transmission fluid is used as a trick in the oil to reduce valve noise. The oil in the radiator is also seen which can be a sign of a blown head gasket. Not only this, but sometimes the burnt ATF is also seen. So, always avoid the bad signs as it can dump your car later. Sometimes the fresh and clean oil is seen, this is again a suspicious point. Check the oil after a test drive to look for change, if other checking points are over. Park the car on a clean floor after the test drive and put some newspaper under it in order to check the leakage of engine.

When all the checking is, done, start the car and listen carefully for sometime. If the car does not start easily and does not idle efficiently then take a test drive.

There are certain matters that you need to consider while taking a test drive of used cars. First of all, the test drive should be lengthy, at least over half an hour. The steering should be smooth. The brakes should be accurate. It should be pulled to one side while applying brakes or traveling. It should accelerate smoothly. Drive the car in residential as well as free areas.

Overall, make sure you take a look at each and every aspect of a used car, before you reach at your final decision about buying a vehicle.
