Cars Versus Quadracycles
First of all, be aware that there are increasing numbers of vehicles out there that, while getting some of the best gas mileage, are not actual cars. For example, there is currently a vehicle called the G-Wiz that is electric and sold in the UK. It’s moderately popular, but be advised that it’s a quadracycle, not a car! This is an important distinction to make, because cars are subject to safety regulations that quadracycles just aren’t.

Of course here I speak of the lively Ford Focus. If you get it in manual, you can really manipulate the at mileage gauge and still let ‘er rip on those curves. It’s got a handsome shape that has pleased car buyers since its release, and at top mileage of 35 miles per gallon, it’s a class act.

With a sweet top mpg of 38, the Honda Fit may also be worth a look. The Fit has been a hit with twenty-somethings, and part of its secret is the amazing job that Japanese engineers did in space allocation. Time was not long ago that Japanese cars were associated, fairly or not, with being cramped and not suitable as family vehicles. This car’s got great use of space in spades, even if you’re tall!
Mercedes Does It Again
One of the top performers in the best gas mileage category is a German, the Mercedes E320 BLUETEC. If you throw an extra $1,000 towards the gas-powered model, you can have the diesel upgrade. With gas topping out at over $4/gallon, you can eat up this extra cost in no time. Instead, the diesel is seen as a great, environmentally sound alternative. And it’s a Mercedes, so you know it’s hot. It’s got a 3-liter V6, but plenty of zoom for whatever you require, including class.
