So you want to get better gas mileage with a device? There are many out there. Gas mileage devices can be a boon to anyone looking to save a buck, or a few hundred, on gas. While gas continues to go up, we’ll probably see more in the way of gas mileage devices being developed for all kinds of public use. The first one? Your brain.

Gas Mileage Devices - OK, OK, It’s Not Quite Your Brain

But you need a brain to know what’s going on. The next best thing to being psychically connected to your car? Devices to monitor gas mileage. These come standard on many vehicles, and a part of an advanced on-board monitoring computer that is definitely worth its extra expense when it comes time to calculating your mileage. There are many ways to do it, and you work with your car’s computer, that may be all the gas mileage device that you need.

Gas Mileage Devices - Instant MPG

If you happen to be shopping for a car, make sure you grab one that features both instant and average MPG. I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to be cruising down the road with nothing on my mind but the road ahead of me. At this point, thanks to my car’s instant mpg gauge, I know my car’s efficiency like the back of my hand. That’s why I say your brain is your best gas mileage device.

Gas Mileage Devices - Average MPG

The average MPG is also a great thing for keeping your car’s zip fresh. It’s all part of monitoring, which is really the best gas mileage device you could ask for. If you stay sharp, knowing the average MPG and recording it somewhere is a great way to see what the car’s condition is, to see what’s under the hood at one thousand, one hundred thousand, or three hundred thousand.

Gas Mileage Devices - Add-Ons

I cannot tell you enough to beware of add-ons. There are many out there, each of them promising a better fuel mileage device. You can spend 100 bucks on these, or more, and it will mostly go down the drain. Avoid anything that attaches to the air-intake hose; none of these so far have born out the hype. Instead, you may consider going for an instrument that will scan your exhaust effectively. Remember, knowledge is power. These can run you about 100 bucks as well, but when your car displays an error number, you’ll thank your lucky stars that most of these also read error codes!
